    GenCon Updates

For the love of god, will someone post an update? I refuse to believe Todd is the only one with an internet connection...

C'mon you slackers! Post! Post for the rest of us!

I concur! I was floored when I noticed no updates(save Todd's) at all!

Legacy was won by a Dynasty member from England playing a Dragone Faceless deck.  He'll be picking a kolat.

    Yep..That one.

Oh its posted in the open on our forums, I just know that the selfidentified Scorps who visit our place are all at GenCon, and therefore have no reliable computer access.

From the Crab Boards, as postes by Hida Koutetsu:

    Hida Koutetsu:
I went 1-4 in the first 5 rounds of the semis and dropped to see the rest of the convention.

Fiction snippets before rounds 4 and 5 had Omen having a telepathic conversation with the new Jade Sun, and ascending to the Heavens with some regrets about leaving the Crab; and Kuon receiving a report of Yakamo's fall, with the added note that they have detected Eternal Jade (uncorruptible) in his remains.

L5R seminar talked about upcoming products, including Art of War, where the graphic design was done by Edge Entertainment of Spain, and the L5R graphic novel "Death at Koten," which began with a live reading of dialogue between a Scorpion courtier and his apprentice, which appears to be the framing device: "Let me tell you the story of the death of Hida Kisada..."  then we received a killer preview page, with Kisada under siege by dozens of ninja, and holding his own in a major way.  Release date delayed to March '09 to have the timing work out with the upcoming story arc, as the death of Kisada "sets off a chain of events that will have ramifications throughout the next arc."

Newest member of the L5R Story Team: Lucas Twyman, reading a snippet about Agasha Miyoshi meditating and seeing the battle between Obsidian and Hitomi in the Heavens.  Followed by a Crab snippet read by someone else, featuring Hida Yagimaki (!!!) and Rikyu coming to the realization that the Spider have not fallen for their arranged ambush and have managed to steal the Tao of Fu Leng.

Race for the Throne update: the November finals has its own story prize, first, that the winning clan gets governorship over the lands of the eliminated clan; second, that if the winner is from the clan that would be eliminated, there's a chance that clan will not be eliminated, in which case the clan behind them in the criteria for elimination goes away instead (for Scorpion: 3rd place clan, for Crab: 2nd to last Military, etc.).  Eliminated clan will not be gone, just stripped of clan status and made ronin, and will have special story elements tailored to them in the next arc, with the opportunity to prove their worthiness to be a clan again.

Next was a 15-year retrospective, basically a Flash movie using old art snippets to take us through the major arcs of the game, culminating in the unveiling of Celestial Edition ("A celestial wind blows on the breath of a forgotten daughter.").  The L5R 15th Anniversary celebration will begin with The Imperial Gift, or AEG's gift to its loyal player base:  an entire expansion we will receive for free via our Dojo Days stores.  It will be distributed in three parts, starting in November and continuing in 2009 and 2010.  There is a new antagonist or somesuch for the arc, who will issue 15 challenges to the clans, starting with Kotei '09.  How the Clans respond will determine what happens to them in the future.

Celestial will also unveil another AEG-Edge Entertainment partnership, with a complete retooling of the graphic design on the L5R cards.  Each card type will have a unique look, including little touches (such as bamboo borders on Region cards).  The new designs look quite sharp, bringing L5R into the realm of newer card game designs.

That's all I have for now.  I heard we had 5 Crabs who qualified for Sunday, including Salman, Griffis, Jacobsen and Bret Swanson.

    Re: GenCon Updates

So we or the spider definitely are the villains in Kisada's death. If he was to stay that long I would've hoped to see an aging bear not reeiving any help by Shoju 2.0 just for the sake of karma.

So the finals in november can save the dragon if we win the race provided they win the event. Unlikely as of now but with a new expansion legal by then. It would be priceless to have a scorpion concede to a Dragon in the finals and so they can leave their mountains and seize the lion lands ...

That being said current reports have the dragon getting most of the economic points, mantis grabing shitloads of koku out their rent-a-mantis deal for t-shirts dominance, ... doesn't sound too good for us, especially with NO updates from our people.

Most disturbing in the draft resulting in some kolaty Lion killing Saya in a duel ?! Hope we can nominate her for chancellorship and save her from that fate

Apparently Akodo Seiichi killed Saya. (Dineen on the Mantis forums has said he masterminded the result as revenge from the Kolat)

Technically Saya wasn't a legal choice, but that doesn't mean that the story team won't honor the request. I don't really care either way. Its not like we will get to keep Saya next arc anyway. She would be a pretty good choice for Chancellor though I guess.

Heh, one can't "mastermind" having your enemy coming in second.

Saya's not a valid personality per the rules of that tournament.  Non-unique, non-experienced, living personality.

The Scorpion are just a little bit busier than the other clans? Anyway I had to leave a day early, so let me enlighten you all:

-My Banner took third largest... I think. Won no other points that I know.

    -A Scorpion took Best Banner

-A Scorpion took Best Costume.(I am so bad with names, I think it was Mike that got them both)

-We have at least two military points from BC

-Still waiting on news from the RPG set where I spent my whole weekend.

    Re: GenCon Updates

Reportedly, Salman's costume came in 2nd overall for the Con. I'd LOVE to see the costume that managed to beat that.
