    Saya is dead

Don't know if there is a post for this yet...but yeah, there was a booster draft tournament Friday at Gen Con, where the first and second place players selected two personalities to be in a duel.  Well, the loser of that duel was Saya.  The winner was some Lion personality that I forget.  But yeah, Saya got murdered.  At least she went down like a true G.

The guy that won was conceeded to in the finals and chose Akodo Seiichi.  The man who conceeded chose Saya out of spite of Saya.  However I belive you're supposed to pick a non-expirienced personality, and as we all know saya has an expirienced version.

    Saya *should* live.

However, I heard rumor that she wasn't going to make it to Celestial Ed. anyway

Edit: The final match of this tournament will allow each finalist to select any one non-experienced, non-unique living personality currently aligned to their faction.

So the guy made an illegal choice.

Experienced version in the current arc, I believe.

I don't care if she dies, as long as it's a good and memorable death.  That's what samurai drama is all about.

Nothing assures the death will be good or memorable.

I wouldn't care if she had died at the end of Lotus, but with so many people supporting her for Chancellorship I think it was a wrong move that will upset many scorpion fans. If I were Bolt, I'd consider hiring a bodyguard for the next big tournament I attended.

For my part, I'd have liked that her story had developed before taking the axe. The girl has been around  for more than three year, got enlightened, been played extensively, worshipped by fans, won a send-in contest and all she got back was a fiction where she got indebted to Asahina Beniha. In fact, we didn't know not a single thing about her background or story until Masters of Court was released. Saya has been denied screen time, and when she had the chance of shining perhaps becoming the chancellor, she'll get killed. I can only hope that her death will live up to the character without sinking in plot-induced stupidity.

Now it's time for campaigning for Hisoka.

Nomen is a tool. Having a peep who doesn't really exist take an imperial position is risky; should someone discover he/she isn't real, the subsequent shame would reach  unprecedented, titanic levels.

Not too many people could testify against Nomen, were they the Chancellor.  Especially if the Emperor and Emerald Champion both disagreed with them.

I have stated this multiple times, and I will state it again:

That fiction was not her story prize.

"Showing up in a fiction" is not the same thing as "having a fiction focused around the character".

My post wasn't focusing only on the send-in contest, nor do I say that the fiction was linked specifically to that story prize. My point is that there are more than enough reasons (the send-in contest is just one of them) for her receiving some screen time that she hasn't received thus far. Being informed that she'll got killed (presumably) leaving her story untold... well, it was disappointing.

She isn't dead yet.  This only says that she will die to the Kolat.  When, how and where are up to the ST, and that includes whatever else she happens to do first.

Death is Samurai drama can be a good thing.  I don't think that many people are angry that Saya is dying.

It's the circumstances surrounding her death that's getting a lot of us upset (myself included).  She isn't dying because a scorpion player choose Saya to fight in the Duel.  She's dying because pro-Kolat players exploited a flawed touranament mechanic and guarenteed she would die.

Kwanchai?” Norachai said incredulously. “Is that you?” The warrior stepped inside, saying nothing. Norachai stepped closer to look at the bloodied figure Kwanchai carried. “Is… is that Kaukatsu?”

“Do not touch him!” Kwanchai roared. “Leave him be!” He calmed down, gathering his composure as best he could. “He deserved better than this.”

There would be a lot less complaining if I had made it into second place instead of 4th and lost the final match and choose Saya... so that part I understand.

Much of the social history of the western world has been replacing what worked with what sounded good.

Nope, worse. You would've needlessly gambled (or outright chosen to kill, you're supposed to chose before) an important character (as per the chancellor vote you know of). Takuro would be a fun choice in this kind of situation: "Will you risk winning and kill Takuro while it may dishonor your family?"

I gotta stand behind rick on this one. partially because i'm pro-kolat, and partially because she's had her day. If ST refuses to give her story time despite her prominence in Dishonor decks, despite the send in, and despite the fact that she's kinda leading the Scorpion in non EC politics then she wasn't going to get story time period. Better wipe the slate clean and try again with a new best courtier.

Depends.  Had you actually played the final match and lost fairly, I'm pretty sure there would be a lot fewer people complaining.  Had you gotten into the finals and forfeited to get Saya killed (I understand the pro-kolat aspect, but my complaint is coming from a meta-game prespective) there would be just as much, if not more angry people.
